14mo-2.5yrs

Ages 14mo. - 2.5 years

Wiggles and Giggles 

 This is a 40 minute class of exploring the world of dance with your little one. The use of props, mats, and sing-along songs allows each adult to help the child develop motor and coordination skills in a fun, structured environment. Very basic baby ballet steps will be introduced and with much repetition from week to week, the children will learn to put the names of the steps to the movements. It is designed for movement exploration and is a perfect opportunity for babies to get in on the dance fun before they are old enough to join class on their own for more dance instruction. 

   Dance Attire: Dance attire or Exercise clothing is appropriate for the little dancer. Adults can dress comfortably and relaxed, ready to move around the floor with their little one! Bare feet is best for the baby to feel the floor beneath them, but a non-skid sock or ballet shoe is also appropriate. We ask that adults wear socks or bare feet as no street shoes are allowed in the studio.

 

3-5yrs

Ages 3 - 5 years

Creative Movement & Ballet

This 60 minute class targets beginner ballet technique and poise. We focus on the core concepts of dance in a fun lighthearted atmosphere. We will also take time to explore movement through music, develop physical skills and stimulate creativity and imagination during Creative Movement. Beginner Ballet technique and steps will be introduced and practiced week to week to help the young dancers prepare for performing on "the big stage!"

Dance Attire: Capezio Ballet Pink dance tights, Leotard of any color, Dance shorts or skirt above the knee is optional, Capezio Ballet Pink "Daisy" leather ballet shoes.

Baby Acro

This 60 minute class will introduce stretching, balance and flexibility. We focus on the core concepts of dance in a fun lighthearted atmosphere. We will also take time to explore movement through music, develop physical skills and stimulate creativity and imagination. Beginner Acro technique, "tricks" and how to execute them safely will be taught and practiced week to week to help the young dancers improve their Baby Acro abilities!

Dance Attire:  Capezio Footless Caramel Tights, Leotard or biketard of any color,  Dance shorts above the knee is optional, Bare Feet

Tappin' Tots

This adorable intro to tap and creative movement combo class is perfect for the little one who loves to make music with their feet! The first half of class will focus on rhythm, and very beginner tap steps as dancers learn how to make music with their feet! The second half of class, dancers will remove their tap shoes and dance barefoot as they navigate through various creative movement exercises and activities. This class will be a hit for the active toddler who loves music, dancing and sounds! Try something new and join this upbeat, fun and musical class this season.

Dance Attire:  Leotard or biketard of any color, Caramel Capezio Transition Tights and Capezio patent leather tap shoes. Shorts and leggings are allowed over leotard. Boys- Fitted Athletic clothing & Capezio patent leather tap shoes.

 

5-7yrs

Ages 5 - 7 years

Beginner Jazz

This 1 hour class begins with a full jazz stretch to prepare our muscles and body for movement. General Jazz Technique and skills will be taught as well and various styles of Jazz dance will be introduced to the young dancers. There will be a focus in flexibility, body alignment and properly executing the movements to the rhythm of the music. The class will be a mix of beginner steps and choreography as well as going across the floor executing these steps together.

* Take this class in combination with Beginner Tap as they run back to back!*

Dance Attire: Capezio Caramel dance tights, Leotard of any color, Dance shorts or skirt above the knee is optional, Capezio Caramel split sole Jazz Shoes

 

Beginner Tap

 This 1 hour class starts with a fun, upbeat tap warmup. Over the course of the season, core Tap technique and terminology will be taught focusing on the clarity of beginner tap sounds and fluidity from one step to another. Emphasis will be placed on the execution and combination of tap steps during across the floor exercises, group/partner exercises and choreography for dance routines. The class will be a mix of beginner steps and choreography as well as going across the floor executing these steps together.

* Take this class in combination with Beginner Jazz as they run back to back!*

Dance Attire: Capezio Caramel dance tights,  Leotard of any color, Dance shorts or skirt above the knee is optional, Capezio "Mary-Jane" Black Tap Shoes

 

Ballet Technique 

This 60 minute class is designed to introduce ballet discipline and technique to young dancers. We will start with a complete barre warmup and the class will be run in a traditional ballet class format. The dancers will learn terminology, posture, strength and basic ballet technique. Each student will be introduced to the core fundamentals that are required for a strong ballet structure and are implemented in every dance style.

Dance Attire: Capezio Ballet Pink dance tights,  Black Leotard (no skirt/shorts), Capezio Ballet Pink leather ballet shoes, Hair must be worn in a bun and out of the dancer's face. 

Beginner Acro

Acro classes focus on building strength and flexibility while learning how to safely and properly execute acrobatic tricks. Dance technique is taught to improve the fluidity of Acro movements in choreography. Material taught will be based on skill level and ability. Classes are kept small to ensure individualized attention is being made during class.

Bare Feet

Beginner Hip Hop

This 60 minute class is designed to introduce Hip Hop styles and explore the different dance techniques such as popping, locking and breaking. Material taught will be appropriate to each age and level and consist of new steps, tricks and choreography. Hip Hop is a great way to build confidence and improve stage presence during performances. Hip Hop music and energy is contagious so come see what all the hype is about at Beyond the Barre! 

Dance Attire: Shorts or leggings (no baggy pants or jeans),  Tank top or t-shirt (no baggy street clothes), CLEAN sneakers,  Attire must be dance appropriate, no street/ school clothes allowed

Ages 8+ (Level I, II, III)

Ballet I, II & III

This 60 minute Ballet class (Ballet III is 90 minutes) will begin with a complete barre warmup and ballet steps in the center as well as across the floor. Following a traditional ballet class format, an extensive and vigorous lesson plan will enhance student's ability of strength, balance, grace, skill and posture. Dancers will learn proper terminology as well as an abundance of ballet combinations and steps. Placement into each of these levels will be determined by age and ability. Taking a ballet class is a pre-requisite to be considered for any of the competitive dance teams.

Dance Attire: Capezio Ballet Pink dance tights, Black Leotard (no skirt/shorts), Capezio Ballet Pink leather ballet shoes,  Hair must be worn in a bun and out of the dancer's face. 

 

Tap I, II & III

This 60 minute tap class will begin with a warm-up to loosen muscles, feet and ankles in preparation for a dynamic and enthusiastic lesson. Tap dance enables a dancer to create percussive sounds with their feet. A strong focus will be on clarity of sounds, rhythm, body placement and syncopation as well as progressing to perform quick, uniform steps as a team. As students progress through the levels, they will be challeged with improvisational exercises, intricate rhythms and footwork. Placement into each Tap level will be determined by age and ability. Taking a tap class is a pre-requisite to be considered for any of the competitive dance teams.

Dance Attire: Capezio Caramel tights (footed or transition), Capezio Lace up split sole black tap shoes, Black Leotard, Black dance shorts or capris are optional

 

Jazz I, II & III

This 60 minute jazz class will begin with a dynamic stretch and warm-up stressing technique, flexibility, coordination and strength. The class will focus on traditional Broadway as well as contemporary styles of jazz in a diciplined, structured atmosphere. Across the floor exercises and combinations will focus on the fundamental jazz steps, agility and vocabulary. As students advance to higher levels they will focus on development of skills, quality of movement, perfecting technique and performance stage presence. Placement into each of these levels will be determined by age and ability. Taking a jazz class is a pre-requisite to be considered for any of the competitive dance teams.

 Dance Attire: Capezio Caramel tights (footed or transition),  Capezio Caramel split-sole jazz shoes, Black Leotard, Black dance shorts or capris are optional

Hip Hop I, II & III

This 60 minute class is designed to introduce Hip Hop styles and explore the different dance techniques such as popping, locking and breaking. Lyrical / Contemporary (Age 10+)

Lyrical is a combination of Ballet, Jazz and Modern movements. Students will also explore how lyrical dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics to tell a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. Contemporary is a blend of Lyrical, Jazz, Ballet and Modern and includes both fluid and percussive movements with emotion to tell a story or give a message. During the warmup, we will focus on improving flexibility, extension, core strength, and balance. Students will learn how to express a wide range of emotions through their dance based on musical interpretation. Contemporary combinations will consist of abstract movements that combine modern and classical ballet elements. Students will learn how to quickly change tempo and create sharp and clean transitions. Students must take ballet in conjunction with Contemporary.The class will begin with a warmup and will include across the floor exercises as well as choreography.

Dance Attire: Capezio Caramel Stirrup Tights, Capezio Leather Pirouette (half-sole) Shoes, Black Leotard,  Black dance shorts or capris are optional

Pointe/Pre-Pointe (Age 12+)

All pointe classes are designed for students with previous ballet training. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles. You must be enrolled in a ballet class in addition to Pointe. You will be evaluated in class and approved by the ballet teacher in order to be allowed to purchase pointe shoes. Please contact us if you are interested in enrolling or if you have any questions and please refrain from purchasing pointe shoes at this time.

Modern (Age 12+)

This 60 minute Modern Dance class is a mixture of various techniques and approaches; while paying homage to modern dance founders this class will also embrace and incorporate the styles of a variety of contemporary choreographers. In class you will clearly experience “fall and recovery” that is central to Doris Humphrey’s technique while also embracing the clean lines and strength of Lester Horton and the drama of Martha Graham

Dance Attire: Capezio Caramel Footless or Transition Tights, Bare feet, Black Leotard, Black dance shorts or capris are optional.

Adaptive Dance Class

Buddy Bees

Buddy Bees is an adaptive dance class that pairs young dancers with physical or cognitive needs with typically developing dancers to provide an opportunity for them to explore and experience the joys of movement, dance, and music in a positive, supportive, and creative atmosphere; regardless of experience and/or abilities. Buddy Bees classes will offer important benefits that include improvements in coordination, body awareness, overall fitness, self-esteem, balance, self-expression, teamwork, rhythm, and musicality. 

Dance Attire: Athletic clothing  that is not too baggy, Bare feet, No Jewelry or Distracting articles of clothing

Ages 18+

Adult Jazz I

This class is the perfect introduction to dance for any age adult. Class is run in a traditional jazz format, but is customized to meet the needs of each dancer’s ability. Individual attention is given to ensure that the dancers are receiving proper corrections and validation throughout class. Improve your physical ability by learning basic steps, traveling across the floor and engaging new muscles all while challenging your mind to apply the technique taught and memorizing choreography and terminology.

*This class immediately follows the Adult Tap I class, so for those looking for more than a 45 minute commitment, we encourage you to try both!*

Any of the following is acceptable: Exercise clothing that is fitted and not baggy in any areas, No long pants, but leggings are okay,No oversized T-Shirts, but fitted tank tops and shirts are best. Tan Jazz shoes (you can purchase the studio jazz shoes at Labrie Dance) or bare feet suggested.

Adult Jazz II

This is the perfect class for any dancer with dance experience looking for a more advanced class. Class is run in a traditional jazz format, but is customized to meet the needs of each dancer’s ability. This class is customized to meet the needs of each dancer’s ability while giving some individualized attention, however it is a faster paced class with more advanced choreography than the Adult Jazz I class. Improve your physical ability by learning basic steps, traveling across the floor and engaging new muscles all while challenging your mind to apply the technique taught and memorizing choreography and terminology. This class immediately follows the Adult Tap II class, so for those looking for more than a 45 minute commitment, we encourage you to try both!*

Class begins with a warm up to loosen our muscles and prepare for a dynamic and enthusiastic lesson. While creating percussive sounds with our feet, you will learn tap vocabulary, traditional tap steps and choreography. This class is before the Adult Jazz I class, so for those looking for more than a 45 minute commitment, we encourage you to try both!*

If you have dance experience and you are itching to get back into it and challenge yourself while having fun and sharing the dance floor with other passionate adults who love to dance- then this class is for you! The theme of the class will change from week to week covering Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Broadway Jazz, technique, turns, leaps and more! There will be a strong focus on the core fundamentals of the different styles but a lot of fun choreography will be taught as well. Commuting to college or dorming close by, or maybe just looking to pick up an old hobby that you love.. come see what BTB is all about! 

*  Enrolled dancers must be able to execute the following prerequisite skills: Double pirouette, Calypso leap, Battements 45 degrees or higher, All traditional leaps (develope and grande jete), have an extensive knowledge of ballet/dance technique and can execute a combination across the floor including all of these skills effectively.

Classes and times are subject to change. Beyond the Barre Dance Academy strives to provide a structured, refreshed and professional program for our students and BTB reserves the right to make changes to the class schedule as necessary.

There will be invitations given for our serious and talented dancers to join our "Yellow Jackets" Competition team as well as our  "Apprentice Bees." You must be enrolled in a Tap, Jazz and Ballet class to be considered for our Competition Teams. Please advise the director if you are interested in joining our Competition Team!
